Mr. Plaut is responsible for the analysis and valuation of investment opportunities for Hovde Credit Opportunities Advisors, particularly as it pertains to high yield and distressed credit issues. Mr. Plaut has a long and distinguished track record in identifying profitable investment opportunities across the capital structures of companies both in the U.S. and abroad. Prior to joining Hovde, Mr. Plaut was a Senior Vice President at Imperial Capital, where he focused on special situation opportunities among high yield and distressed companies. Prior to Imperial Capital, Mr. Plaut was a High Yield/Capital Arb Specialist for Sanno Point Capital. Before joining Sanno Point, Mr. Plaut was Managing Director and Head of Global Financial Institutions Research as well as Head of European Credit Research at Bank of America, based in London. Prior to Bank of America, Mr. Plaut was a Vice President at Salomon Brothers, where he specialized in Emerging Market Sovereign, Financials and Corporate Research. During his tenure at Salomon Brothers, Mr. Plaut served as a Ratings Advisor for the Republic of Korea during its financial crisis in 1997-1998 and was subsequently elected to term membership in the Council on Foreign Relations for this work. Before Salomon Brothers, Mr. Plaut held senior analyst positions at UBS Securities and JPMorgan, where he focused on financial institutions, U.S. Agencies and corporates.
Mr. Plaut earned his degrees in Management Information Systems, Computer Science and Economics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and holds Series 7, 63, 65, 86 and 87 licenses. During his tenure as a sell-side analyst, Mr. Plaut was an All-American Institutional Investor Ranked Fixed Income Analyst. In May 2008, he received the honor as one of the Top 20 Rising Hedge Fund Stars by Institutional Investor Magazine and Alternative Investment News. Mr. Plaut has been frequently quoted by the international media and has made several guest appearances on Bloomberg TV, Bloomberg Radio and CNBC. Mr. Plaut is married and has three children. Mr. Plaut and his wife Diane are involved in several charities with an emphasis on children.
