To date, Hovde Missions have enabled
groups of Hovde team members to provide humanitarian contributions
in Kosovo, Romania, Bolivia, Appalachia (United States),
Uganda, Lesotho, Zambia and Mexico. Each of these trips has had a different focus,
but all have enabled Hovde to contribute in a meaningful
way to the further development of an underprivileged community.
Kosovo and Romania
On the first Hovde Mission, a trip to Kosovo and Romania,
Hovde team members, including Eric Hovde and Steve Hovde, assisted
in the construction of homes and schools, visited children
in orphanages, and delivered clothing to families in need.
Bolivia
On this mission trip, Hovde team members made significant contributions
to a community in Bolivia; this team renovated and rehabilitated
a local school, helped construct a learning greenhouse,
and completed the installation of an agricultural irrigation
system.
Appalachia
On two separate occasions, Hovde team members traveled to Appalachia
to help less fortunate communities. These team members contributed
to the development of a community center, rebuilt aspects
of a family home, and helped finish a multifunctional youth
center for children.
Uganda
A Hovde team has traveled twice to Uganda to provide assistance
in an area devastated by poverty and disease. These team members built homes for children who had lost their parents to HIV/AIDS,
visited children in schools, and assisted with the harvesting
of crops on area farms.
Lesotho
Hovde team members traveled to Lesotho in Southern Africa to work with villages which have been struck by the HIV/AIDS epidemic as well as extreme poverty and environmental challenges. This group helped construct homes, plant trees and distribute food as part of a food-for-work program.
Zambia
In 2008, Hovde team members traveled to Zambia in Southern Africa in conjunction with World Vision and World Bicycle Relief to help address the ongoing HIV/AIDS crisis. In addition to building numerous bicycles for distribution to community home-based care volunteers, disease prevention educators and vulnerable households, several members of the Hovde team initiated sponsorship of children whom they visited outside of Lusaka, Zambia.
Mexico City - "Hovde House"
On January 25, 2006, Eric Hovde and other members of the Hovde team officially dedicated "Hovde House/Casa Hovde" at a ceremony in Mexico City. This facility is a “children’s home” for street children in the region and provides transitional housing for 62 children to enable them to become either reunited with their families or contributing members of communities on their own. The Mexico City "Hovde House" is the beginning of the achievement of the Hovde vision to build a series of homes for street children around the globe. |
